WAIUKU RAILWAY AQUEDUCT

AUCKLAND COUNCIL STORMWATER UPGRADE STAGE 1

Fraser Thomas have undertaken the detailed Integrated Stormwater Catchment Management Study for the entire Waiuku township. Given this extensive local experience, Fraser Thomas were commissioned by Auckland Council to design a solution to pipe an open channel located in a former Railway embankment that was experiencing piping failure from the stormwater it conveyed. This entailed upgrading the existing stormwater reticulation along the line of the abandoned railway from Queen Street to Victoria Avenue in Waiuku. The works involved the piping of an existing open drain with a 630mm diameter pipe and provide an overland flowpath and footpath above the pipe

This project incorporated civil engineering services consisting of full design and supervision, including:

  • Stormwater modelling and management study for the primary pipe conveying the 2 to 5 year storms, with detention solutions (small and large detention areas assessed), with the resulting discharge of storms up to 100 year events discharged via the overland flow path
  • Preparation of full engineering design and drawings
  • Preparation of contract documents for tender including a schedule of prices and specifications, preparation of an Engineers Estimate
  • Contract management of the works in terms of the Engineers role as defined under NZS 3910:2003 including construction observation.
