PAIHIA PEDESTRIAN MALL

WILLIAMS ROAD LINK

As part of a district-wide public-spaces improvement program, the Far North District Council upgraded the service lane separating the North Paihia Pedestrian mall from the South Paihia Pedestrian Mall in late 2010. The upgrade included removing permanent vehicle access from the service lane and providing a pedestrian link to Williams Road from the middle of the Mall.

The upgrade generated a high level of public interest with public consultation on the design and design elements carefully reflecting the existing character of Paihia. The final result is of an extremely high standard and is a credit to the Council and all involved.

Fraser Thomas Limited was originally contracted to provide accurate surveying services of the existing service lane and complex services layout within the lane. This survey needed to be of extremely high detail and accuracy to ensure that design and construction created minimal disruption to water, power, telecommunications, and sewerage services.

Fraser Thomas was also contracted to call tenders, prepare the construction contract documents, and oversee the construction contract including inspections of works.

This project was of particular interest to Fraser Thomas as it involved an extensive upgrade to the entrance of our offices which are accessed off the new pedestrian mall – a significant improvement over access via the service lane.

Fraser Thomas is proud to be involved in local community projects in Northland.
